Contact Dr. Bates to discuss assessment and consultation services including diagnostic assessments and consultation on care for people with eating and body image issues. Dr. Bates uses ongoing assessment to monitor clients progress in treatment.
Dr. Bates' primary activity is providing attentive, specialized psychotherapy for individual adults and for young adults. Dr. Bates utilizes evidence-based treatment. She finds that using techniques and insights from learning-based psychotherapy models leads to effective care without rigid adherence to a research-based protocol. Individual care is tailored to a clients challenges and goals.
Dr. Bates occasionally offers group psychotherapy for adults with eating and body image issues including relationship-based groups and behavioral change based groups including DBT and ACT-informed groups.

Dr. Bates is a Licensed Psychologist in North Carolina and Michigan. Telehealth clients are welcome to attend in office sessions when possible.

I specialize in treating clients with eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image disturbance in young adult and adult men and women. I also frequently work with clients who seek help with mood difficulties including depression and bipolar disorder. Anxiety disorders treated include OCD, generalized anxiety disorder, social fears, performance anxiety, and PTSD. We often address relationship issues with partners, parents, children, and/or family of origin issues. I work with people and not with disorders. The work will focus on issues in the context of your life circumstance, your experiences, and your values.
